Up, Romanian Coat of Arms, name of National Bank of Romania "BANCA NATIONALA A ROMÂNIEI" and an inset with the NBR logo. Down, banknote denomination in figures and letters "2.000 lei DOUA MII". Left, authorised signatures of Governor, Chief Cashier and issuing year "1999". Vertically right, denomination "DOUA MII 2.000". Centre, map of Romania having marked on it a stripe on the area from which the eclipse can be seen as total. Up, denomination value "2.000" vertically and horizontally, name of National Bank of Romania "BANCA NATIONALA A ROMÂNIEI" and NBR logo. Right from the map the penalty text, vertically: "FALSIFICAREA ACESTOR BILETE SE PEDEPSESTE CONFORM LEGILOR" (FORGERY IS PUNISHED ACCORDING TO THE LAW). This is the first polymer banknote of Romania. It is a commemorative issue celebrating the 11 August 1999 total solar eclipse and the entering into the year 2000. Its description and the date of issue were announced by the National Bank of Romania in a press release dated 12 July 1999.
